Lausanne – Switzerland, September 27, 2016 – There are less than two weeks to go before the third edition of the Smart Cities & Sport Summit gets under way! This unique conference for cities involved in sport is close to capacity with only a few places still available.

Once again this year, the biggest Sport Cities in the world will participate in the discussions, including: Copenhagen, Barcelona, Québec City, Lake Placid, Rotterdam, Busan, Beijing, Sapporo, Houston, Athens, Lausanne, Reno-Tahoe, Edmonton, Bergen, Oslo, Pyeongchang, Singapore, Atlanta, Antwerp, Detroit, Montréal, Qingdao, Pittsburgh, Helsinki, Geneva, Innsbruck, Albertville, Buenos Aires, Stockholm, Hamburg, St. Louis as well as the three candidate cities for the 2024 Summer Olympic Games: Budapest, Los Angeles and Paris.

The programme will explore a variety of themes where cities and sport come together, including “Sport & Integration – how to use sport to unite communities?”, “Sport & Health – the role of cities in promoting active lifestyles”, as well as “Sport & Place branding – aligning your city’s brand with international sport: risk or opportunity?”

This year’s programme also innovates with the addition of an interactive Masterclass. Professor Mikkel Draebye from the world renowned SDA Bocconi Business School in Milan will present and provide tools on how to define, measure and communicate success as a sport city. Furthermore, the ‘Big Debate’ will feature a discussion on one of the most talked about topics this year: governance in sports. The debate will focus on how should cities react to the current issues affecting the international sport world?

Following the successful collaboration last year, the IOC will again organise a special session in which they will present various opportunities for cities to partner with the Olympic Movement. This 90-minute-presentation is planned in the afternoon of Wednesday, October 12.

As it has now become a tradition, cities will also have the opportunity to network with International Federations (IFs) and sport suppliers during the “Marketplace” session. The IFs responsible for the following sports have been invited to participate: Athletics, Swimming, Basketball, Equestrian, Fencing, Cycling, Gymnastics, Triathlon, Wrestling, Taekwondo, Boxing, Rowing, Canoe, Golf, Weightlifting, Hockey, Motorsports, Sailing, Archery, Bowling, Baseball/Softball, Roller Sports, Judo, Table Tennis, Bobsleigh/Skeleton, Sambo, Wushu, university sports and football.  The International Olympic Committee and SportAccord Convention will also be part of the session.

The Smart Cities & Sport Summit is the place to be for any city wishing to learn about efficient and sustainable sport development strategies and to network with important actors in the sport sector.

Don’t miss it: October 10-12, 2016 in Lausanne, the Olympic Capital!
