Sky Sports to Show Live International Badminton
SKY SPORTS are set to show British Olympic-medallists Nathan Robertson and Gail Emms in their first competitive tournament since Athens.
Sky Sports will bring two days of live coverage of the Danish Open badminton tournament from Aarhus, Denmark, on Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 October.
There will be at least three hours of coverage each day – and Sky Sports will feature Saturday’s mixed doubles Final and Sunday’s men’s and women’s Finals live – from this Grand Prix event.
As well as the Olympic silver-medallists in the mixed doubles, the tournament will feature former World and All-England champion Camilla Martin in her final event before retiring from the sport.
Announcing the coverage, Sue Ashworth of Sky Sports said: ‘People were hooked on Badminton and our medal-winning doubles in Athens; now they could see them back in action in Denmark.. The sport has always held an appeal and this year we will increase our commitment to the sport and add seven hours of coverage to our schedule..’
The Danish Open adds another event to Sky Sports Badminton line-up. Sky Sports also broadcast the All England Badminton Tournament in March and the last World Championships.
Commenting on the coverage, Gail Emms said: ‘Nathan and I have been overwhelmed by the interest in us and in badminton since our success in Athens and we are delighted that Sky Sports will be showing live coverage of the Danish Open. It’s a tournament we very much enjoy playing as we both have close ties and great support in Denmark.’
The arrangement follows another deal announced this week, for coverage of the 2004 Horse Of The Year Show. Sky Sports will broadcast three hours of highlights from the famous event on the evening of Monday 11 October.
