The Korean Paralympic Committee (KPC) is delighted to have been granted the honor of hosting the 2007 International Paralympic Committee (IPC) General Assembly in Seoul next November. Seoul was selected to host the General Assembly in a competition between candidates from 15 countries.

Through hosting the IPC General Assembly the KPC seeks to raise the profile of sport for people with a disability in Korea, ultimately leading to higher levels of participation and performance.

Choi Kyung Sik, Secretary General of the KPC said:
“We are honored that Seoul has been chosen as the venue for the 2007 IPC General Assembly and we look forward to welcoming delegates from around the world. By hosting the General Assembly and bidding for the 2014 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games we seek to make Paralympic sport a significantly higher priority in South Korea.”

South Korea, and especially Gangwon province where PyeongChang is located, has made major improvements in recent years to public transport to ensure that buses and trains are accessible to all. In addition, Gangwon province has an active sports development program for people with a disability, including an ice sledge hockey club. 

In its bid plans for the 2014 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, PyeongChang is focusing on the needs of the athletes, minimizing travel times to ensure that every Paralympic and Olympic competitor can perform to the best of their ability and fully enjoy the Games experience.

Kim Jin-sun, Executive President of PyeongChang 2014, offered his congratulations to the KPC and said:

“PyeongChang has made great progress in developing winter sports for people with a disability through hosting numerous international competitions. There is strong support among the Korean people for Paralympic sport and firm government commitment.”

And he added:

 “The successful bid to host the 2007 IPC General Assembly is further evidence that Korea and PyeongChang are capable of hosting an outstanding Paralympic Winter Games.”
