Scotland’s three-match Autumn Test series is being sponsored by one of the world’s leading internet services companies – UUNET. The series will be branded the UUNET Autumn Tests presented by Lucent NPS.

The announcement was made by Phil Anderton, the SRU’s Marketing and Commercial Director. ‘ We are delighted that Scotland’s Autumn Tests against the USA, Australia and Samoa will be sponsored by an award-winning company at the cutting edge of the information superhighway,’ he said.

UUNET, a Worldcom company, which operates in 65 countries, provides services to facilitate e-business and e-commerce. Lucent NPS designs and delivers the systems, software, silicon and services for the communication networks.

Cormac Whelan, UUNET’s vice-president of marketing for Europe, the Middle-East and Africa, said: ‘Rugby is becoming very much a truly global game and we see parallels with UUNET’s activities where, especially in Europe, we have been expanding our reach and network in the last three to four years. Indeed, as part of our international growth we have recently expanded our Scottish office.

‘We’re excited about our progress as a company and rugby’s development into a game with a greater global profile, as demonstrated by the United States’ first Test match on Scottish soil and the clashes against Australia and Samoa from the Southern Hemisphere.’
