Scottish Rugby’s Chief Executive, Phil Anderton, has been awarded Scottish Sport Sponsorship Personality of the Year by Sport Scotland just days before the final of the Scottish Marketing Awards in which not only is he up for Marketeer of the year but Scottish Rugby has been nominated for its Discover Rugby Campaign.

Discover Rugby is a youth rugby development programme sponsored by LIoyds TSB and has been nominated in the category of non-profit making campaigns. It set out to recruit and retain Scottish 11-16 year-olds to the game of rugby. Using the 2003 Rugby World Cup as a catalyst, Discover Rugby was positioned to appeal to a non-traditional, younger audience in order to boost the number of youths participating in rugby in Scotland, using such methods as PR, web, e-mail, CD-ROMs and Scottish schools.

Alasdair Russell, Head of Marketing, said: ‘This is a real high for the marketing team at Scottish Rugby just now. It is a real credit to all involved in the Discover Rugby campaign that our effort and achievement have been recognised by the Scottish Marketing Awards.’

The Scottish Marketing Awards are being held at the Glasgow Grosvenor Hilton in Glasgow’s West End this evening, Monday 29th March.
