The Scottish Rugby Union has announced the appointment of real estate consultants Jones Lang LaSalle as property development advisors. The instruction is for Jones Lang LaSalle to consider the options for maximising the development potential of the land owned by the SRU in the vicinity of the National Rugby Stadium at Murrayfield, Edinburgh.

The site under SRU ownership, including the Stadium, extends to 41 acres and has been the subject of various development proposals in recent years.

Bill Watson, Chief Executive of the Scottish Rugby Union, said: ‘Jones Lang LaSalle are world leaders in real estate with a particular strength and expertise in the Edinburgh market. We welcome the huge understanding or our game, sport and Edinburgh which Jones Lang LaSalle’s international director Andy Irvine brings to the table.

‘Both ourselves and Jones Lang LaSalle clearly recognise the sensitivities and the challenges the site represents.’

David Bell, Head of Planning at Jones Lang LaSalle in Scotland, said: ‘We are aware that there have been a number of development proposals over the years, and our job is to assess the development potential of the land, taking all the potentially suitable uses and development constraints into account.’

Jones Lang LaSalle will report to the SRU later this year and their findings will be used to help form a development strategy for the Stadium and the surrounding area.
