Christopher De Maria, a veteran public relations executive, has been named Vice resident for Communications at the Sanex WTA Tour. De Maria, who begins his duties immediately, came to the Tour from Cohn & Wolfe in New York City, N.Y., where he was Vice President-Group Manager. He spent more than 10 years at the agency, where he worked on a variety of sports and consumer product accounts, including most recently the United States Census 2000 Road Tour and the United States Postal Service’s (USPS) ‘Celebrate the Century’ millennium program. “We are very pleased that Chris has joined the Sanex WTA Tour as our new Vice President for Communications,” Tour CEO Bart McGuire said. “He has worked closely with the Tour from the agency side in the past and knows the history and tradition of our organization. He is a true public relations professional who will provide tremendous leadership for our communications efforts.” De Maria’s tennis experience includes supervising media activity for what is now the CHASE CHAMPIONSHIPS of the Sanex WTA Tour at Madison Square Garden from 1988-95, and overseeing domestic and international publicity efforts for the Tour in 1997-98. He also provided media relations support to the Tour at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta.
