Sam Torrrance, who succeeds Mark James, has accepted an invitation to be the captain of the European Team for the 34th Ryder Cup to be played at The Belfry, Sutton Coldfield, England, on September 28-30, 2001. Mark James becomes the 18th golfer to captain a Ryder Cup Team against the USA. Torrance said , “It’s a fabulous honour to be named European Captain. I’ve never made a secret of how much I enjoy the Ryder Cup, and to be the captain makes me feel very proud.”
