In addition to currently topping the scoring charts at Euro 2004, Wayne Rooney is leading the search charts too, according to the latest figures from www.megasoccer.com.

Since the tournament kicked off on June 12th, Rooney has become the most searched for player on Megasoccer, the world’s only specialist football search engine, knocking established stars Raul, Beckham and Zidane down the list. Following his two goals for England in the crucial game against Croatia on June 21st, Rooney surged ahead with users from across the globe searching for information on the 18-year-old.

The England forward also drew first blood for England against Portugal, holding off a late surge in searches for Cristiano Ronaldo. The Manchester United man is the second most searched for player so far in the tournament.

Michael Flynn, C.E.O. of Fast Web Media, the company behind Megasoccer.com, said ‘Search traffic has been very high throughout the tournament so far and Rooney’s performance on the Megasoccer.com search engine has mirrored his performance on the pitch. To have overtaken David Beckham as a search query could well indicate how popular he’s set to become on the world football stage.’
