Last Saturday’s NFL Europe League game in Frankfurt, Germany between the Frankfurt Galaxy and Rhein Fire attracted 58,572 fans – the largest crowd ever to witness an NFL Europe League regular-season game.
Saturday’s crowd was the second largest for any team sporting event in the world (66,108; Japan vs. Russia, World Cup) this past weekend (June 8-9).
‘This was a phenomenal crowd and a terrific atmosphere for football,’ said Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback TEE MARTIN, who led Rhein to a 3-0 win and a berth in World Bowl X on June 22.
Galaxy head coach DOUG GRABER agreed. ‘We really appreciate all the fans coming out,’ Graber said. ‘It was outstanding. I am sorry we could not win the game, but the size of the crowd was a great testament to our fans and the NFL Europe League.’
In comparison to the ongoing World Cup soccer championship, the NFL Europe League game outdrew 27 of the first 29 games played in the World Cup through this weekend.
