The Royal & Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews (R&A) has chosen adidas Golf as ‘The Preferred Apparel Supplier to The Open Championship’ for 2004, 2005 and 2006.

An agreement between the R&A and adidas Golf ensures that adidas Golf will be the major apparel brand on sale at the Open Championship’s retail merchandise area at the sites of the next three British Open Championships, at Royal Troon in 2004, St. Andrews in 2005 and Royal Liverpool in 2006. adidas Golf will supply men’s, women’s and children’s apparel, caps and footwear.

Additionally, adidas Golf will provide the uniforms for all R&A Event Staff, The Official Open Championship Car Drivers, Scoreboard Operators and Retail Area employees at each of the three subject events.

The R&A has also granted adidas Golf worldwide exclusive merchandise license rights (with the exception of Japan) for Open Championship branded apparel, which allows for the sale of apparel bearing the ‘Claret Jug’ roundel logo to retail outlets around the globe.

‘We are very proud to be working with the Royal & Ancient Golf Club of St Andrew’s, one of the world’s most respected golf organizations, at the world’s oldest major championship,’ said Paul Clark, Global General Manager of adidas Golf. ‘The Royal & Ancient’s decision to choose adidas Golf as the Preferred Apparel Supplier for the next three Open Championships represents a significant occasion in the history of our brand. This relationship provides the ultimate in global golf authentication for adidas Golf and is one we look forward to nurturing over the next three years and beyond.’

‘The Royal & Ancient Golf Club of St Andrew’s is delighted to be working with adidas Golf at The Open Championship 2004-6,’ said Angus Farquhar, Commercial Secretary of The Royal & Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrew’s. ‘We chose adidas Golf as The Preferred Apparel Supplier to The Open Championship due to their commitment to the game of golf, excellent quality products and proven successful partnerships with other major sporting associations. We look forward to working with adidas Golf in expanding the reach of The Open Championship brandmark through the worldwide apparel license that has been created.’
