PyeongChang 2014 Bid Committee Submitted the Bid Book to the IOC
Hyeok-seung Kwon, Mayor of PyeongChang and Nam-soo Kim, Director of PyeongChang’s International Relations Team submitted the bid book to the IOC in Lausanne, Switzerland. It was transferred to Gilbert Pelly, Executive Director and Jacqueline Barrett, head of the IOC office that handles Olympic bids IOC on 9 January.
Mayor Hyeok-seung Kwon said, “On behalf of the PyeongChang 2014 Bid Committee I am delighted to hand over our bid book to the IOC. The bid book reflects both the enthusiasm and aspirations of the city of PyeongChang, province of Gangwong and people of Korea.”
The bid book contains PyeongChang’s vision for promoting world peace through hosting the Olympic Games. The Bid Committee has ensured that the requirements of athletes are paramount, as well as the promotion of winter sports in Asia where three-quarters of the world’s population live.
Seung-soo Han, Chairman of the Bid Committee said “The submission of the bid book marks the final six months of our campaign as we approach the evaluation visit in February and climax of the bid in Guatemala” and added that “having previously finished second in our bid to host the 2010 Winter Olympic Games PyeongChang we have learnt a great deal, and the experiences will be put into action to ensure the 2014 bid moves from silver to gold.”
