Six-hundred and thirty-eight entries from 24 countries poured in to the Red Dot judging committee. From that enormous mountain of entries, Prince Sports received the Red Dot Design Award in recognition of high design quality for O3 Technology – further affirming the brand’s position as a leading industry innovator.

The Red Dot Design Awards is one of the largest design competitions worldwide.  Receiving a coveted “Red Dot” trophy is more than just a seal of quality from a competition: it stands for acceptance among the very best in design and business.

The competition is divided into three sections:  product design, communication design, and concept design. Due to the high number of quality entries, this year’s competition was extremely challenging.  After a rigorous judging process, the winners were chosen for exceptional achievement in their respective categories.

“This is the inaugural year for O3 Technology, and it has been embraced by the tennis community,” said Mike Ballardie, Vice President and Managing Director of Prince Sports Europe.  “But, it is also causing people outside the tennis world to do a double-take.

“It’s an honour to receive such a distinguished design award, and we’re proud of the team inside our company who created a racquet so unique that the world is taking notice.”

Prince Sports’ R&D Director Roberto Gazzara, the leader of the O3 Technology team, added:  “We knew from the beginning that we were on to something that would revolutionise the game of tennis on a global scale.  This award is further affirmation that Prince engineers are true innovators.”

About O-Port Technology:
Prince re-engineered traditional pin-sized string holes into giant O-Ports, providing total string freedom for a livelier response across the entire string bed. This expanded the conventional sweet spot by up to 54 percent, turning it into a Sweet Zone, allowing players to hit their best shots more often, faster more accurate serves, more controlled volleys, and more penetrating ground strokes.  O-Ports also act as ‘wind tunnels’ to reduce aerodynamic drag, creating a fast and manoeuvrable frame which produces a faster swing speed for more aggressive play. Not only is the engineering radical, but so is the look. The sleek black frame splashed with metallic colour accentuates the most unique feature of the O3, the giant O-Ports.

Prince is the established industry leader in the development and manufacturing of performance racquet sports equipment that is proven at the highest level of competition and used by both professional athletes and aspiring recreational players.  Prince Sports, Inc., the parent company, is based in New Jersey, USA, and the International HQ, Prince Sports Europe Ltd, is located in London.  Prince Sports, which holds more patents than any other racquet company, revolutionised the game of tennis with its introductions of the “Oversize”, “Longbody”®, “Triple Threat”® and “More”® racquets; it reshaped squash with its innovative “Extender”®; “Triple Threat”® and “More”® racquets; and redefined badminton with both “Y-Joint” and “More”® technologies.  In 2005, the brand introduces O3, a breakthrough in tennis engineering and technology that increases the sweet spot by up to 54%, enabling players to hit their best shots, more often.  Today, Prince Sports has operations on three continents and distribution in over 100 countries.
