The FA Premier League today confirmed that NTL have decided not to conclude the negotiations to acquire the rights to show 40 live matches on a pay-per-view basis for three years from season 2001/02 onwards.

We also confirm that negotiations with Sky and ITV have been concluded, securing packages for 66 live matches and highlights respectively for the same three year period.

Richard Scudamore, Chief Executive of the FA Premier League, said: ‘We respect the fact that NTL have reached this decision. The outlook for the FA Premier League is however very positive. We have concluded excellent deals with Sky and ITV and are still in possession of this very valuable asset for which we know there is immense interest. We will be discussing with our Clubs how to best realise that interest over the next few days’.
