Mitre, the world’s leading high performance sports product manufacturer, has appointed Pitch PR to run its consumer PR business in the UK.

After a competitive pitch, the Freud’s backed agency has been appointed on a twelve month contract to create and oversee a consumer PR strategy focusing on day-to-day media relations as well as a series of product specific campaigns.

Kicking things off with the launch of the new Meteor football and an FA Cup campaign, Pitch will be lining up with Mitre’s internal marketing team to refresh the Mitre brand.

Pitch will be responsible for maximising publicity around Mitre’s player endorsements as well as football, rugby and cricket products to raise the profile of the brand in both mainstream consumer and sports media.

Mitre part of the Pentland Group, was established in 1871, and is the oldest, most specialsed sports brand in the UK. With a long history in producing high performance technical product across a wide variety of sports, Mitre is the official football provider to the Football Association of England, the Coca Cola Football League, the Scottish Premier League and the Football Association of Wales.

Pitch PR is a consumer and corporate agency which specializes in working with clients involved in sport. The London-based agency was founded by Henry Chappell in 2002 with the backing of Freud Communications. Chappell, 31, started his career at IMG, the leading sports management group, and is a former Associate Director of Freud’s. Other clients include ABN AMRO, Betfair, HSBC, Motorola, and Racing UK.

Henry Chappell, founder and Managing Director of Pitch PR, commented:
“This is a fantastic win for us. It’s very satisfying to win such a sort after piece of business particularly after a highly competitive pitch. Mitre has a rich heritage which we will be looking to capitalise on, and with the World Cup just around the corner, the time is right for some new thinking and creative activity to get the brand talked about.”

Katrina McCreadie. Marketing Manager Mitre commented:
“The next 12 months will be an important period for Mitre. The World Cup next year will have the nation talking about football – we need to exploit this and respond to a changing market and increased competition with a fresh approach to marketing, PR and media relations. We appointed Pitch PR for their creative thinking and their media credentials. We are very much looking forward to working together and generating a buzz about the brand.”
