Ashes hero Kevin Pietersen, World Cup winner Will Greenwood and Chelsea legend Graeme Le Saux have been confirmed as ambassadors for the inaugural Square Mile Sport Awards. The panel of modern sporting legends will lead the nomination and selection process for the Awards taking place on Thursday 7th December.

The Square Mile Sport Awards, in association with CITY A.M. has been created to give the sports fanatics in the City the opportunity to choose and reward their sports personalities of the year. The panel will refine a shortlist of their sports stars of 2006, from which the City will be invited to select their winners. Nominations and votes will be canvassed through CITY A.M. newspaper as well as through the CITY A.M. daily podcast.

The line-up of Awards includes two special categories which will see members of the City rewarded for their achievements in the field of sport and business. ‘The Square Mile City Sports Person of the Year’ and the ‘The Sporting Chance Award,’ will call on the City to nominate themselves or a colleague, and the winner will then be selected by the panel.

The Square Mile City Sports Person of the Year will focus on the outstanding individual from the Square Mile who has not only shown sporting excellence during the past 12 months but has also excelled at their full time career. The Sporting Chance Award will reward the individual from the City who has demonstrated the biggest commitment to charitable organisations through sporting endeavours.

The Square Mile Sport Awards have already attracted sponsorship from a number of major brands wishing to target city workers. There are still sponsorship opportunities available before the official launch of the event in September.

The Square Mile Sport Awards are organised by the creators of the Sport Industry Awards, which is now the largest sport business event in Europe.
