RATP Issues a Special Edition Metro Ticket

Paris, February 16, 2005 – Parisians and visitors to the city riding the metro will have a chance to celebrate the city’s Olympic bid when they buy the special edition Metro tickets featuring the “Paris 2012 Ville Candidate” logo. Ten million special edition tickets will be on sale in the Ile-de-France Region between February 16 and March 31st, to welcome the International Olympic Committee Evaluation Commission. The Commission will visit Paris on March 9-12.

The initiative was undertaken by the STIF (Syndicat des Transports d’Ile-de-France, the authority regulating public transport in the Ile de France region), RATP (Paris’s public
transportation system) and SNCF (France’s national authority for railroads).

“This is a very special occasion and we wanted to invite all the people from the Ile-de-France region to celebrate the Paris 2012 bid by offering the tickets that are likely to become collectibles”, said Gilles Alligner, RATP communications director. “Last time the special edition metro ticket was issued was to celebrate the enlargement of the European Union. We were sold out of these tickets in a matter of days. Collectors from all over the globe hunted for them”.

The price of the “Paris 2012” ticket will be the same as the regular Metro ticket, 1,4 euro. This ticket also provides access to all RER trains and buses that operate in Paris. In addition to the tickets; four million metro plans with the colors of Paris 2012 will be distributed in the metro beginning February 16.
