Mr Shaharyar M.Khan, Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board
(PCB), Tuesday issued the following statement regarding contracts.
‘In order to state the PCB’s position on the forthcoming
negotiations with regard to marketing contracts related to the Indian team’s tour of Pakistan and to avoid speculative and ill informed comment, I am outlining the following policy decisions:
‘In consonance with PCB’s policy of financial integrity and
transparency, the Board has appointed Mr. Riaz Mahmood as an independent Marketing Consultant to the PCB for the period of Indian team’s tour of Pakistan. He will be assisted by Mr. Ahmad Hosain a Lawyer from Lahore.
Mr. Riaz Mahmood enjoys an outstanding reputation as a leading marketing expert having served for 33 years in the Marketing Deparment for the Pakistan Tobacco Company during which he was involved in PTC’s sponsorship of cricket. Since his retirement, Mr. Riaz Mahmood was appointed Chief Executive of the Board of Social Marketing Pakistan –
now Greenstar – and was elected to the Council of Marketing of Pakistan and was twice elected as its President. Mr. Ahmad Hosain is a distinguished independent Lawyer practicing in Lahore. If necessary, a third member will be co-opted to the independent team of consultants.
‘Once these issues are clarified, the PCB will invite
through an open public invitation all interested companies to engage in offers for various marketing rights including Radio, Special events, ground and in-stadia advertisement and other related marketing issues.
‘It is clarified that PCB will honour all existing contracts to which it is legally committed and that ancillary marketing contracts would be negotiated, openly and transparently, in the light of existing contracts.
‘In view of the urgency of finalizing this process PCB intends to complete these negotiations expeditiously.’
