The 2009 Waterski World Championships will certainly be a very special occasion for the sport of Waterskiing. This biennial event is the major competition in the calendar of the International Water Ski Federation. It will also be a major musical occasion for the Calgary area in the Province of Alberta, Canada. Calgary is Canada’s energy capital. Not only will over 200 Waterski athletes from 40 nations compete at the magnificent Lakes of Kastynstone site, home of the Predator Bay Water Ski Club, the August 3/9 World Waterski Championships will also incorporate the DRENCHED Music Festival. This combination of waterski action on the lake and 14 live bands on the shore is expected to attract an estimated 30,000 spectators for this complete entertainment package.

The Predator Bay Water Ski Club World Championships site is located within 30 minutes drive of Calgary International Airport. Situated at an altitude of 1084m / 3566 ft, the average daily temperature in early August is 20C / 68Fh and this is Canada’s sunniest location. All the boats and support service will once again be provided by Nautiques. The model to be featured will be the Ski Nautiques 196. Waterski and Wakeboard Canada and the World Water Ski Championships Organizing Committee have released details of the action packed programme which will take place on two perfect man-made lakes. The extensive World Water Ski Championships Festival programme will also include the IWSF World Congress, Hall of Fame inductions, Watersports demonstrations, lakeside Beer Garden, International Food Court, Opening and Closing Ceremonies, Award Ceremonies – plus the Drenched Music Festival top name bands lined up throughout the week which include The Midway State, The Dudes, Current Swell, Gob, Sloan, Hey Ocean, Shilo, State of Shock, Hedley, Ten Second Epic, Finger Eleven and Default. Spectators are encouraged to arrive early each day as the Drenched Music Festival will intersperse the action on the water throughout.
