The opening V8 Supercar Championship Series race at the Clipsal 500 in Adelaide has hosted a record crowd of 237,000 in four days.

It shows that Australia’s most watched category is in for its biggest year in history with 2 million patrons over the 13 rounds well within expectations for 2004.

On the opening day in Adelaide 33,600 people attended, there were 51,300 at the track on Friday, 71,800 on Saturday and 80,700 today.

The sport is experiencing massive growth every year. Television audiences are also through the roof with upwards of 60 million viewers tuning in worldwide.
