NTL wins satellite distribution contract from Chrysalis Television
Three-year managed deal covers car rally events world-wide
NTL to provide seamless distribution services to broadcasters across Europe

NTL Broadcast has been chosen by Chrysalis TV to provide satellite links for the 2001 World Rally Championship. In a three-year deal NTL will bring signals back to the UK for 14 events in 2001 and all others scheduled for 2002 and 2003. The programme for 2001 includes 10 events in Europe, as well as locations in Kenya, Argentina, Australia and New Zealand. NTL is to manage all satellite distribution services for the championship.

As well as broadcasting up to seven feeds a day in the form of news or daily highlights, NTL will also provide downlinking services for broadcasters across Europe as and when required. NTL will ensure engineering continuity at the events through a satellite news gathering (SNG) truck and a team of dedicated engineers managing live broadcasts, videotape playouts and third-party facilities as appropriate.

Tim Breadin, Head of Production at Chrysalis Television, explained why NTL was chosen: ‘NTL has a proven track record in broadcasting this event, gained through its experience with ISC over the last two years. We were also keen to work with a company which could provide complete contract management, and NTL fitted the bill perfectly.’

Steve Holebrook, NTL’s business director for media solutions, added: ‘We are delighted to be working with Chrysalis at these high-profile events, of which we have a good deal of experience. NTL offers the broadcaster an integrated team environment where engineers assigned to the job month-in, month-out develop a trusted working relationship with production staff.’
