‘The Beautiful Century: 100 Years of FIFA’: re-live the drama, passion and excitement of football’s greatest moments
As part of their 2004 Centennial celebrations, FIFA are working closely in conjunction with TWI on the production and distribution of a series of television programmes and special features. These highlight the work and development of football’s governing body over the last 100 years and re-live the drama, passion and excitement of the game’s greatest moments.
Two complementary programmes have been produced: a four x 30-minute documentary, and 30 one-minute vignettes – all of which are now available for worldwide distribution on all television platforms. In addition, a further 52 one-minute vignettes will be featured in a regular weekly slot on
Futbol Mundial throughout FIFA’s 2004 Centenary year. The first of these features, to be launched this week, is dedicated to the German goalkeeping legend Sepp Maier.
Each of the products fuses rarely seen footage from the FIFA archive with specialist footage from TWI’s archive to create truly unique, original and entertaining programming.
The first of these programmes, ‘The Beautiful Century: 100 Years of FIFA’ celebrates the growth of football from a popular but fragmented pastime to the sport we know and love today. The four-part series uses four themes to
trace the development of the game worldwide:
* Origins – the formation of FIFA and how the game expanded
globally from Europe;
* The Champions’ Tale – focuses specifically on the FIFA World Cup(tm) from 1930 to 2002;
* Football Missionaries – the game’s ancient roots and the
growth of football via individuals and clubs;
* Expansion and Beyond – how FIFA has provided the platform
for smaller nations and different age groups, men and women, to compete at the world level.
Building upon this, ‘FIFA: 100 years of Timeless Moments’ is a series of 30 vignettes which highlight great memories, outstanding Finals, stunning moments and key players of the last 100 years.
