Following the buy-out of the Australian arm of the now bankrupt Sportsworld Media Group by the group’s former majority stakeholder Jeff Chapman, the Antipodean unit has undergone a rebrand.
The Melbourne-based Sportsworld Australia has now been re-christened as Sportsbrand Media Group following a change of ownership.
In an official release, the company stated that the name change indicated the growing importance for those involved in the creation and production of sports programming to understand brand communications.
Matthew Pearce, managing director of Sportsbrand Media Australasia, commented: ‘Our name change does not mean cultural or personnel change. Our team remain committed to service of the highest standard.’
Jeff Chapman bought back three international businesses from the administrators of Sportsworld Media after originally selling his stake in the company for $102.4million (EUR113m) in 2000. As well as the Australian business, Chapman also acquired the Dubai and New Zealand units.
