The National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing (NASCAR) today announced the postponement of the New Hampshire 300 NASCAR Winston Cup Series race at New Hampshire International Speedway in Loudon, N.H. The race has been rescheduled for Friday, Nov. 23.
The decision came after extensive deliberation following Tuesday’s terrorist attacks on the United States.
‘This is a time for families to come together,’ said NASCAR President Mike Helton. ‘We felt that postponing this weekend’s race was simply the right thing to do. We join the nation in mourning those who lost their lives, and pray that those wounded will recover fully.’
The starting lineup for the New Hampshire 300 has already been set according to the 2001 NASCAR Winston Cup Series rule book and will be used for the rescheduled race. NASCAR had cancelled qualifying earlier this week.
‘We fully support NASCAR’s decision to postpone the race,’ said Gary Bahre, President of New Hampshire International Speedway. ‘We regret the tragic circumstances that made the postponement necessary. But we truly understand the decision and our hearts go out to those who have suffered losses.’ Bahre said that all tickets to the New Hampshire 300 will be honored at the November event.
NASCAR also postponed this weekend’s NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race at Texas Motor Speedway. The Featherlite Modified Tour and Busch North Series races, scheduled for New Hampshire this Saturday, have been cancelled. The Raybestos Brakes Northwest Series race scheduled this Saturday at Magic Valley Speedway in Idaho has been cancelled, as well.
