Major League Soccer Commissioner Don Garber has confirmed he will be one of the keynote speakers at the upcoming Soccerex Americas Forum, taking place on 21-22 October in Barbados.

Having been in the role since 1999, Commissioner Garber brought about a change in fortune for the league, ushering it out of a threatening period of financial underperformance and into one of stability and growth. Under his tenure, the league has expanded to 19 teams across America and Canada, a number which will increase to 21 in 2015, and targets a total of 24 teams by 2020.

Having just signed a new five-year deal to stay in his role, he will be at the Forum to highlight MLS’s rise within the American sports industry which has seen it overtake basketball and ice hockey in terms of average attendances. As a member of the Caribbean Professional League’s Task Force, Commissioner Garber will also contribute to the discussions around the feasibility of a potential Caribbean professional football league.

Soccerex CEO Duncan Revie commented: "Soccer has enjoyed a dramatic rise in popularity and seen a significant commercial growth over the past 10 years, something which Don has been at the centre of. We’re extremely pleased that Don and Major League Soccer will be bringing their commercial expertise, organisational know how and creative flare to share with our delegates."
