The last 3 qualification possibilities for men’s Volleyball Olympic tournament in Sydney, are the three FIVB World events scheduled in July in Portugal (21-23), Greece (24-26) and France (25-27). As at close of deadline, the 9 teams that have registered, based on their eligibility as per the FIVB World Ranking, are as follow: Africa (Confederation quota: 1) TUNISIA (World ranking 20th) or EGYPT (23rd), depending of the results of the African Qualification event finishing on Sunday in Cairo, the winner of which will get a direct ticket to Sydney 2000. Asia (Confederation quota: 3) CHINA (13th), JAPAN (18th), CHINESE TAIPEI (34th) Europe (Confederation quota: 4 – organisers + 1) SPAIN (7th) NorCeCa (Confederation quota: 2) CANADA (10th) South America (Confederation quota: 2) ARGENTINA (9th), VENEZUELA (17th) Along with the 3 organisers, PORTUGAL, GREECE and FRANCE, we have a total of eleven teams. According to the FIVB regulations, the vacant position goes to THE NETHERLANDS as the best ranked European team (World Ranking 8th). The distribution of the teams in the tree tournaments will be done by drawing of lots in Porto, Portugal, on February 25th.
