The SANZAR Board today agreed to establish a working party to conduct a mid-term review of the Super 12 and the Tri Nations Series. The Chairmen of South Africa, New Zealand and Australia, Messrs Silas Nkanunu, Murray McCaw and David Clarke, said the review would be wide ranging and include the competition structure and the number of teams participating in them.
The review will be sensitive to the number of matches played and the effect on player welfare. One of the key parts of the review is to examine how the value of the
SANZAR competitions can be enhanced.
The review also provides the opportunity to achieve greater harmony with the Northern Hemisphere season.
The working party will comprise the three CEOs of the national unions and will begin immediately. There will be no change to competition structures in 2001, with review recommendations, if approved by the join-venture partners, aimed for implementation for 2002.
