The veteran Argentine football super-star Diego Maradona will make a rare appearance on the football pitch at Lothar Matthaus’ farewell match it has been confirmed today.

The former Argentine and Napoli captain will interrupt his drug rehabilitation in Havana, Cuba to play alongside the German midfielder. The two have met in the past on opposing sides, playing against one another in both the 1986 and 1990 FIFA World Cup finals, as well as in Italy’s Serie A during the 1980’s.

Maradona will arrive in Munich on the day of the game and is expected to play for only 20 or 30 minutes. The Farewell Match will see an all-star German side take on Bayern Munich at the Olympic Stadium in Munich on Friday 26th May.
