21st August 2006 – The World Academy of Sport and Manchester United today announced the involvement of Sir Bobby Charlton in its leadership programme, The Winning Margin – Leading for Performance.  The programme, delivered by leadership experts from Manchester Business School, will take place 19-21 September at Old Trafford and Manchester United’s training ground at Carrington.

Sir Bobby will be joined by Dr. Les Kershaw, former director of the Manchester United Academy, who will provide an insight into managing human talent through his experiences at the Academy and as chief scout.

Andy Anson, Commercial Director and Brian Kidd, former player and United assistant manager, will discuss the management of an international sporting brand – what keeps them awake at night and the secrets of successfully managing innovation and change.

Commenting on the programme Sir Bobby Charlton said: “It’s thanks to the expertise of individuals like Andy that Manchester United is one of the most internationally recognised brands in the sporting world.”

The joint corporate education programme combines the secrets of United’s leadership success with cutting-edge academic expertise from Manchester Business School.  During the three-day programme participants will hear from Manchester United’s management team past and present and take part in practical leadership training at the Carrington Nike Team Building Facility.
