Australian pop queen Kylie Minogue and 13-year-old Sydney schoolgirl Nikki Webster were on top of the world tonight when they teamed up to climb the Sydney Harbour Bridge in the countdown to the world’s biggest party at the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games Closing Ceremony.

The two talented Australians will team up again on Sunday (1 October) when they farewell the Sydney 2000 Games as part of an all-star line-up for the Closing Ceremony.

Kylie and Nikki will be joined in the Closing Ceremony by several generations of Australian music stars including Jimmy Barnes, Christine Anu, opera singer Yvonne Kenny, Slim Dusty, Vanessa Amorosi, John Paul Young, INXS with Jon Stevens, Men At Work, Tommy and Phil Emmanuel, Midnight Oil, Yothu Yindi and Savage Garden.

The Closing Ceremony – for which tickets are still available – will also feature:

the final event on the Sydney 2000 competition schedule – the men’s marathon and medal presentation ceremony;
a parade of Australian icons including Elle Macpherson, Greg Norman, Paul Hogan and Bananas in Pyjamas;
the extinguishing of the Sydney 2000 Olympic Cauldron and Flame;
the world’s biggest fireworks extravaganza which will light up the sky above the Olympic Stadium.
‘Sydney is going to give the world the best Closing Ceremony ever,’ said Nikki, who will share the stage on Sunday night with international pop sensation Kylie Minogue.

‘It’s so exciting being in an Olympic city at Games-time, especially being a part of the Closing Ceremony,’ said Kylie

‘The energy in town at the moment is overwhelming. The work by all of the Ceremonies’ creative departments is incredible, and the sheer number of volunteers who are involved in these Games is nothing short of inspiring.’

For both Kylie and Nikki, today was the first time either had joined a BridgeClimb and scaled the heights of the giant steel ‘coat hanger’, currently decorated with the Olympic Rings.

Being on top of the bridge took their breath away, as will the Closing Ceremony on Sunday, leaving the world with unforgettable images of the Sydney 2000 Games.

‘This is just awesome. When Sydney Harbour shines it really is brilliant – and the BridgeClimb is just sensational!’ said Kylie.

Today’s BridgeClimb brought back memories for Nikki, who soared above a breathless audience as she took the world on a journey through Australia’s history and culture in the Opening Ceremony.

‘It’s just as much fun as flying through the air in the Opening Ceremony,’ said Nikki, again showing no fear of heights. ‘It is so beautiful.’

The Sydney 2000 Olympic Games Closing Ceremony is the very last opportunity for Australians to be part of Sydney ‘s Olympic history.
