Madrid, February 4th 2005
The King Juan Carlos, who was wearing a Madrid 2012 tie, guaranteed yesterday to the International Olympic Committee commissioners that “all the Spanish people support the bid without any fissure, and also all the political parties and social groups”. The King also stated that “there exist a lot of experience organizing sport competitions and other important events” in the Spanish city.
That was what the King said just before the official dinner with the Evaluation Commission members that took place yesterday night in the Royal Palace. The King added that “we are aware of the significance that the Olympic Games have acquired in our society”, because they are “the great festival of the youth, the sport, the solidarity, the friendship and the peace”.
The dinner was the perfect finale to the first day of sessions in Madrid, which started yesterday morning with a meeting that was attended by the President of the Government, Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero, who said that “nothing unites Spain better than Madrid 2012”.
More than forty people had dinner with the Kings of Spain and the IOC commissioners, which are continuing their meetings with the Olympic Office members this morning and, after that, will start visiting the different venues of the project.
