Olympian Sean Kerly, MBE, joins the International Hockey Federation (FIH) as chairman of its Athletes Panel.

Taking over from Rechelle Hawkes, Sean leads the twelve-strong panel and also becomes a member of the FIH Executive Board. The FIH set up the Athletes Panel in 2000 to improve the communication between current players and hockey administrators and to assist in the development of the game
worldwide.

Sean is of the highest hockey calibre, with 198 caps for Great Britain and England combined, scoring over 100 goals in an eleven-year international career. An Olympic medallist, Sean was instrumental in gaining Great Britain’s Olympic gold in the 1988 Seoul Olympics and Bronze in the 1984 Los Angeles Games. He also competed at Barcelona in 1992 and was part of the silver medallist 1986 World Cup team. Sean’s achievements were nationally recognised when he was awarded the MBE in 1993. Sean is also a commentator
for BBC television and radio, highlights including the Atlanta and Sydney Olympic Games and most recently for the Manchester Commonwealth Games.

Sean commented, ‘I believe it is vital to the future of hockey that former players get involved in its administration. I am looking forward to this opportunity to contribute to world hockey and to working with the team of
athletes.’
