The International Waterski & Wakeboard Federation  (IWWF)  is delighted to confirm the details of the  largest Wakeboard World Championships ever staged. The venue will be the impressive man-made lake at Idroscalo on the outskirts of Milan, Italy. The competition will take place from July 13th to 17th.

With 253 athletes from 36 IWWF-affiliated  Federations taking part, their ages will range from Under 9 through to Regional, World Games and former World Champions in Open Men and Women. This year, Columbia, Ecuador, Mexico and Latvia will take part for the first time. Will the hot favorites Australia again win the Overall Team Title ?  They have secured five of the past eight world championship victories and this year will include one of the world’s best riders, Harley Clifford.

Regarded by many as  the Olympic Games  of Wakeboarding, every two years the IWWF hold the World Wakeboard Championships to ensure that all Federations bring their best riders to  compete for the title of Wakeboard World Champion. Each country selects 8 Athletes who compete for World Titles in 12 age-group categories. Their  final placements in their categories earn  team  points  which are  accumulated  to determine the  overall  team placement.

The Official Towboat for the Championships is MasterCraft Park’s edition X-Star with Ilmor 6.0 litre performance engine.

The Italian  Federation  (Federazione Italiana Sci Nautico e Wakeboard) and the  IWWF  World Wakeboard  Council and  affiliated  Federations have combined forces to create one of the most spectacular Championships ever staged. The  perfect  Idroscalo  Lake, originally designed  as a port for amphibious aircraft in the 1920’s, was converted to a recreational centre in 1934. Idroscalo is now owned by the Province of Milan who transformed it into a park often  known as the “Sea of Milan”. The Province manages the park, provides a wide range of services and recently upgraded the infrastructures available  to the public. These include waterskiing, wakeboarding, free-climbing, mountain-biking, canoeing (kayak, canoe, dragon boat, and canoe-polo), rowing, sailing, swimming and running facilities.

I wish all competitors the best of luck  in these IWWF Wakeboard World Championships and offer my congratulations to all involved.
