LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla., Saturday, Jan. 29, 2000 — Team owner Derrick Walker announced Jan. 29 that he will field an Indy Racing League team this season for driver Sarah Fisher with primary sponsorship from Cummins. The Walker Racing team will make its debut at the MCI WorldCom 200 on March 19 at Phoenix. Walker Racing also will continue to field its longtime team in CART. Additional sponsorship of Fisher’s team will be supplied by Mead Carbonless Papers, a longtime sponsor of Fisher during her open-wheel, short-track career. We’re glad to announce today that we’re returning to the IRL, Walker said. The program has taken us about eight months to put together. We’ll begin our season in Phoenix and will be open testing in Las Vegas. We’re pleased to announce that Cummins Racing will be back with us. Cummins will be our primary sponsor. We’re really excited to have a young, up-and-coming rookie driver in Sarah Fisher. We obviously are going to be the only team running both CART and the IRL. Fisher, 19, will be powered by an Aurora engine, Walker said. The team hasn’t decided on a chassis but is leaning toward the Riley & Scott, Walker said. I think it’s certainly an honor to be racing with Derrick Walker, Fisher said. I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for the IRL and its principles in bringing drivers up through the ranks. Fisher made her Indy Racing debut in the Mall.com 500 last October at Texas Motor Speedway. She started 17th for Team Pelfrey and finished 25th after being sidelined with mechanical problems. She also scored five feature wins in 1999 in NAMARS, ARCA and USAC competition in 1999.
