Following a very successful distribution of this year’s event, IEC in Sports has received a mandate from the Tournament Committee to extend their agreement with the ARAG WORLD TEAM CUP until the end of 2003.

The agreement follows recent announcements that both tournament title sponsor ARAG, and Host Broadcaster ARD/ WDR have extended their relationship with the Tier-1 ranked Team event.

IEC in Sports’ CEO, Jonas Persson commented: ‘The ARAG WORLD TEAM CUP is a very important event for IEC in Sports and we are delighted to have extended our relationship with this exceptional event.’

IEC this year distributed the event to all continents with more than 150 countries around the World accessing a combination of live matches, tape-delayed, highlights programmes and extended news agreements.

The Team Tournament, in its 25th year and ranked as a Tier-1 event alongside the Grand Slams, is played each year prior to the French Open at Roland Garros. The ARAG WORLD TEAM CUP has been played at the prestigious Rochusclub in Düsseldorf since 1978 when Spain won the inaugural event.

Persson added: ‘The ARAG WORLD TEAM CUP is without exception one of the most well organized events around and the unique tournament staff and competitive format provide for an excellent product for our clients the world over.’

Tournament Chairman Horst Klosterkemper commented: ‘We have a fruitful cooperation with IEC since 2000. The Tennis World Team Championship is one of the highlights in the tennis calendar each year and deserves to be broadcast around the world. We are therefore happy to continue our successful partnership with IEC in 2003.’

This year’s event was won by late entry Wild Card, Argentina, represented by the growing talents of Jose Acasuso and Guillermo Cañas in the Singles, and by Lucas Arnold and Gaston Etlis in the Doubles. Argentina eventually won the Final beating Russia 3-0 in a one-sided Final.
