Ian Randell Is New Chief Executive of Ladies Golf Tour
(Tytherington, February 5 2003) The Board of Directors of the Evian Ladies European Tour (LET) are delighted to confirm the formal appointment of Ian Randell as chief executive of the Ladies European Tour.
Following the end of Tim Howland’s three year tenure as chief executive in September 2001, Randell was promoted to chief operating officer with the task of stabilising and developing the Tour as a business and particularly it’s tournament base, which has been demonstrated in the recent announcement of an improved schedule for 2003 confirming significant advances in new European markets.
Randell, aged 30 and a 5-handicap golfer, joined the LET from the Professional Golfers’ Association in 1999 as Tournament Director and, in 2000, assumed the post of Director of Tour Operations, responsible for all aspects of rules and administration at each event. He is a graduate of The University of Warwick with a degree in Management Science and, with the experience gained in all aspects of his career in professional golf is well equipped for the task ahead.
‘Ian has been instrumental in securing the increase of the number of events which bodes well for the future of women’s professional golf in Europe,’ said Mette Hageman, chairman of the LET.
‘We are fortunate to have someone of Ian’s enthusiasm, drive and commitment to take the Ladies’ European Tour from strength to strength and assure him of our total support.’
Randell will continue to work with Robin Gibson, Commercial Director of the Tour’s marketing arm, Ladies European Tour Enterprises, to concentrate on the growth of women’s European professional golf and manoeuvre the Tour into the major sporting arena. He was delighted at his new appointment:
‘I feel privileged to be able to lead the Tour into new territories and offer a stable schedule to our members with improved playing and financial opportunities. We have a fantastic group of players competing on the world stage and there is a positive outlook through all aspects of the Tour’.
‘2003 is a landmark year for the LET as hosts of The Solheim Cup in Sweden. All of the staff are determined to make the Tour as successful as possible.
‘I hope to lead the team to further develop Ladies European golf and fulfil its potential in the years to come.’
