Today (20 September) EHF awarded the Women’s EHF EURO2020 to Denmark and Norway at their Congress in Dublin to be staged in December 2020.

Norwegian handball president, Karl-Arne Johannesen is excited about the event and to the Norwegian press release he says:

"We had a great cooperation with Denmark in 2010 and we expect the same for 2020. We really have a good relationship and the Norwegian and Danish cultures are much alike. Also for the national teams our cooperation will add significant inspiration for the years to come. To play a final tournament on home ground is a dream for both players and coaches."

The two countries’ joint bid was the only bid so the awarding was expected. Never the less the president of the Danish Handball Federation, Per Bertelsen, is proud and looks forward to another great international handball tournament in Denmark:

"We have on several occasions shown that we can manage to take international handball tournaments to a higher level for the benefit of participants, spectators, media and the Danish – and the Women’s EHF Euro 2020 will be no exception," says Per Bertelsen, president of the Danish Handball Federation.

"I would like to thank both our Norwegian friends and Sport Event Denmark, that right from the very start once again has been invaluable. We know Sport Event Denmark as an actively involved partner from the planning to execution from many previous events."

The awarding of the EURO2020 is also warmly welcomed by Sport Event Denmark:

"With the Women’s EHF EURO 2020 we continue the success of a long list of handball tournaments in Denmark. The Danes love handball which an impact analysis from the EURO2014 Men's Handball in Denmark earlier this year clearly indicates. The Danish look forward to more handball in Denmark and visitors from abroad also indicate that they will come back to Denmark to see more handball," says Lars Lundov, CEO, Sport Event Denmark and continues: "The IHF Women's World Championships 2015 and the IHF Men’s World Championships 2019 will be staged in Denmark. So it makes sense that Denmark also plays host in 2020 together with Norway."

It is not the first time the Danish Handball Federation and the Norwegian Handball Federation join forces to organize and stage the Women’s EFH EURO. In 2010 Denmark and Norway also played hosts – with the semifinals and finals in Denmark – and with Norwegian gold. In 2020 Norway will host the semifinals and finals.
