This season, the FINA World Cup Swimming Series earned television exposure in more than 100 countries on five different continents. “Interest for the Swimming World Cup has never been greater”, says Anders Björkman, Director of Television Properties at IEC in Sports.

IEC in Sports has distributed the majority of the Swimming World Cup events since 1994. It has never been easy to package this series of events, bearing in mind the fact that there are different rightsowners at each venue and hence different Host Broadcasting arrangements. However, this season we got involved with all of the events at an early stage enabling us to create an attractive proposition to broadcasters around the world”, Björkman continues. The 2005/2006 season comprised eight World Cup events in USA, Russia, Sweden, Australia, South Africa, Germany and Korea with the Final taking place in Belo Horizonte, Brazil.

All events were aired live on television in major TV markets like Russia, Brazil, Italy, France and Sweden. Furthermore, IEC ensured the quick turnaround of tape delayed programming and highlights into Australia, Asia, Middle East and Africa.

In total more than 20 TV-stations were involved in the broadcasts of the 8 Swimming World Cup events.

“Where needed, IEC also offered the local organizers our production services. This season, we produced one of the competition days at the meet in Berlin and brought in the Host Broadcaster for the meet in Korea. We believe that IEC’s involvement in the World Cup Swimming Series has been instrumental in the development of this high profile series of events and in general in the development of the Sport.”

IEC in Sport distributes television rights to more than 200 sports events every year from its offices in Stockholm (Headquarters), Dubai, Montreal, Hong Kong and Sydney.
