Miami, 3 June 2002 – GlobeCast announced today that for the 2002 Major League Baseball season it is providing stadium backhaul services via satellite and fiber for the majority of MLB television and radio rightsholders, including the new Yankees’ YES Network, according to Robert Behar, president and chief executive officer of GlobeCast America.

GlobeCast – a subsidiary of France Telecom – is the world’s largest provider of satellite transmission services for professional broadcast, enterprise media and Internet delivery.

Overall, GlobeCast is backhauling more than 1,700 live televised baseball games on behalf of approximately 50% of MLB TV rightsholders. The transmissions will be routed through GlobeCast’s network of video and audio fiber circuits accessible via proprietary points of presence (POPs) located at each MLB stadium venue. GlobeCast is also managing ISDN backhaul for over 80% of MLB radio rightsholders, including second-language services.

In addition to the Yankees’ YES Network, other leading MLB TV rightsholders turning to GlobeCast for transmission services include the new Orioles Television Network for half of the Baltimore Orioles’ home and away games telecasts, and Dome Productions for half of the Toronto Blue Jays’ away game telecasts. Separately for the Yankees’ YES Network, GlobeCast will coordinate several remote simulcasts (television and radio) out of New York sports venues, featuring WFAN-AM sports radio personalities ‘Mike and the Mad Dog’.
