Paris, 2 September 2005. Leading satellite services company GlobeCast today announced that it is now the world’s largest provider of live television-to-mobile delivery services, delivering 50 television and 11 radio channels on the mobile television bouquet that it operates in France on behalf of Orange, one of the world’s leading mobile providers. The bouquet is available to all of Orange France’s 3G and EDGE subscribers.
GlobeCast, a subsidiary of France Telecom, operates a worldwide content management network over satellite and fibre for delivery of professional media for broadcast, enterprise, government and retail, including file-based content.
Orange France launched its direct-to-mobile television and radio service at the end of 2004 as part of its development of broadband mobile services. At launch, only 11 channels were available but since February 2005, when GlobeCast was selected to manage the bouquet, the line-up has tripled to include 50 television and 11 radio channels. As a result, GlobeCast is now the largest provider of live television-to-mobile delivery services.
GlobeCast is providing Orange with a turnkey service from channel origination to delivery of the final bouquet to Orange’s video headend in Paris. Among the services that GlobeCast is providing for Orange is the insertion of channels into the bouquet, IP transmission via fibre and 24/7 satellite reception. The bouquet is then broadcast by Orange using its microwave 3G and EDGE distribution network.
The implementation of this solution demonstrates GlobeCast’s ability to aggregate and encode content for live broadcast on any network – satellite, cable and ADSL, in addition to mobile 3G or DVB-H networks.
The bouquet currently includes 50 television channels: M6, Trace TV, RTL9, Game One, BBC World, France 2, M6 Music Rock, I-Télé, Mangas, France 3, M6 Music Black, Fashion TV, AB Moteurs, M6 Music Hits , Cinecinéma Info, AB1, Arte, France 5, Infosport, Paris Première, W9, Fun TV, Téva, TV Melody, La Chaîne Parlementaire, Public Sénat, , TV Breizh, NT1, LCI Mobile, JETIX, Action, Toute l’Histoire, Chasse et Pèche, Escales, Encyclopédia, Animaux, Ciné FX, Musique Classique, Ciné Polar, Escales, National Geographic, Voyage, Live1, M6 boutique, Euronews, L’Equipe tv, France 4, TFOU, Odyssée, Histoire, Ushuaïa and 11 radio stations: Fun Radio, NRJ, Europe 2, Skyrock, RFM, Le Mouv’, RTL2, Chérie FM, Nostalgie, FIP and Rire et Chansons.
