Global Sportnet, the Hamburg based sport marketing agency has signed an exclusive 2-year television rights contract with the Greek Football Association earlier this month. The contract covers the exclusive worldwide television advertising rights outside Greece to all home games played by the Greek team during the next two years and has an option for prolongation.

This includes all qualification games to the World Cup 2002 and a minimum of ten friendly matches.

Ultimate highlights during this spell are the World Cup Qualifiers against Germany and England – representing two of the most important television markets in Europe – with Finland and Albania being the other teams in the qualifying group.

Not less than eight marketing companies – among them Octagon/CSI, UFA Sports, SportA and Canal+ – were bidding for the rights with Global Sportnet being the final choice of the Greek Football Association.

In addition to the Greek team’s home games, Global Sportnet has also secured the rights to two other matches in this group, Greece’s away game against Finland next September and the match between Finland and England on October 11th 2000. The latter has been sold to u>direct and is the first England live match ever to be shown in PPV format.

Home fixtures of the Greek team in the World Cup 2002 Qualification:

October 7, 2000 Greece vs. Finland
March 28, 2001 Greece vs. Germany
June 2, 2001 Greece vs. Albania
June 6, 2001 Greece vs. England
