Gillette has appointed Hill and Knowlton to provide strategic and media relations support for their sponsorship of the 2004 Gillette Rugby League Tri- Nations. Hill and Knowlton will be collaborating with Chris Green, former Marketing Director of the Rugby Football League, who will be planning and managing Gillette’s participation as sponsors.
The tournament, involving the world’s three best playing nation’s- Great Britain, New Zealand and Australia, is an exciting new concept taking place in the UK in October and November.
The sponsorship is a one year agreement with the Rugby Football League, valued at a significant six- figure sum. Along with the title sponsorship of the tournament the Gillette brand will also be worn on the front of the Great Britain shirt.
Gillette has previously been involved with international Rugby League as an associate sponsor of the Great Britain team during the 2003 Ashes Series and has formerly been official event partner at the World Club Challenge and the Super League Grand Final.
The global consumer goods company has a strong sporting heritage and is a pioneer of sports marketing as one of the FIFA World Cup’s original sponsors in 1970.
The Gillette work will add to a busy summer for H&K’s Sports Marketing and Sponsorship Division including Euro 2004 and Athens Olympics projects for Carling and Adidas.
