Fifa Publishes Inspection Group Report on World Cup Bids

FIFA has today – Tuesday, 4 May 2004 – published its inspection group’s report on the 2010 FIFA World Cup(tm). The full report on the bids from Egypt, Libya, Morocco, South Africa and Tunisia that was distributed to the
FIFA Executive Committee at the end of April can be downloaded from the official website FIFA.com in all four FIFA languages.

‘This is a further illustration of FIFA’s readiness to show complete transparency by publishing this comprehensive and well-founded report,’ commented FIFA President Joseph S. Blatter.

The report demonstrates that at least three of the candidates are potentially capable of organising a successful FIFA World Cup(tm) single-handed. The prospect of two countries co-hosting the 2010 FIFA World
Cup(tm) is therefore out of the question.

The inspection group for the 2010 FIFA World Cup(tm) headed by the President of the Belgian Football Association, Jan Peeters, has shown total commitment to their work. They visited the five bidding countries between early October 2003 and late January 2004, making exhaustive inspections of their candidatures at first hand. Other group members included Pertti Alaja
(Finland), Jacques Bouillon (France), Michel Sablon (Belgium) and coordinator Harold Mayne-Nicholls (Chile).

The FIFA Executive Committee will decide on the hosts of the 2010 World Cup(tm) at an extraordinary meeting in Zurich on 14 and 15 May 2004. The five bidders will be given the opportunity of presenting their candidature
once more during the afternoon of Friday, 14 May. On Saturday, 15 May, the FIFA Executive Committee will meet at 09.00 h to discuss the matter and vote for their choice of FIFA World Cup(tm) host by secret ballot under notarial supervision. The announcement of the host country for the first-ever FIFA World Cup(tm) to be held in Africa is scheduled for 12.00 h CET at an international media conference in the World Trade Center in Zurich.
