– Over 600 football matches will be played in the BAA Millennium Youth Games (BAA MYG) Grand Final. This is almost 20 times more than the number of matches played in the entire Euro 2000 football competition.
– Over 300 rugby matches will be played in the BAA MYG Grand Final. This is a staggering 50 more matches than is played in the Allied Dunbar Rugby Premiership.
– Over 600 basketball games will be played in the BAA MYG Grand Final. This is four times more than will be played in the Sydney 2000 Olympic basketball tournament.
– Over 300 tennis matches will be played in the BAA MYG Grand Final. Unbelievably, this is fifty more matches than will be played in the entire men’s and women’s singles tournament at Wimbledon this year.
– If you add together the total distance covered by each competitor in the athletics track events the total is equal to running from London to Sheffield!
– If you add together the total distance swam by all competitors in the swimming galas the total is equal to swimming from Dover to Calais and back again!
– Over 600 hockey games will be played in the BAA MYG Grand Final which is twice as many as will be played in the Sydney 2000 men’s and woman’s Olympic hockey tournament.
– Over 300 netball matches will be played in the BAA MYG Grand Final. Incredibly, this is five times more than is played in the English National Netball League.
– Over the four days of the BAA MYG Grand Final a staggering 474,240 minutes of sport will be played.
– Setting up the BAA MYG Grand Final is a mammoth task:
– 20,000 volunteer hours will be needed
– 41,000 sq. ft of tents will be used
– 3500 metres of fencing will be put in place
– over 500 medals will be presented
The Sporting equipment which will be used includes:
– 364 gum shields
– 728 hockey sticks
– 1872 football studs
– 65 different courts/pitches/tracks etc
It is estimate that a staggering:
– 56,000 shoe laces will be tied
– 10,600 litres of water will be drunk
– 66,000 meals will be served
And finally, the full time whistle will be blown an amazing 2400 times!
