From March 20th to March 26th, Eurosport will broadcast one of 2001’s main sporting events: the much-awaited World Figure Skating Championships in Vancouver, Canada. All the Figure Skating elite – the recently crowned European Champions, the world’s title holders as well as the ambitious new comers – will be gathered in Vancouver. Alexei Yagudin, Evgeni Plushenko, Michelle Kwan, Marina Anissina/Gwendal Peizerat or Sarah Hughes are some of the magicians who will display their amazing artistic and athletics skills on Vancouver’s ice.

Ranked 1st in our Top 40 sports in terms of audience, Figure Skating has always had a privileged place in Eurosport’s programming. Last year, the World Championships in Nice gathered more than 34 million different viewers. This season again our coverage is impressive, including all the top events: the European Championships (January 2001), the Four Continents Championships (February 2001), the ISU Grand Prix Series and its final (from October 2000 to February 2001) and the calendar highlight: the World Championships in Vancouver.

To fully appreciate this exciting Canadian week, Eurosport transmits up to 50 hours of programmes, with a maximum of 12 hours of skating per day. A brand new on-air look has been specially designed for the event, focusing on the wide range of emotions that only Figure Skating can arouse.

The World Championships receive an extensive ‘on-line’ coverage on eurosport.com, including detailed information on skaters and couples, as well as the different disciplines and technical figures. Net surfers will also have the opportunity to communicate via a forum that will be opened on March 12th.

The ingredients for success have been gathered: Eurosports’ coverage, the amazing talents of the participants and the prestige of a unique competition.
