Eurosport Group Successfully Expands in Central & Eastern Europe
The Eurosport Group, the leading European sports multimedia platform, and RCS & RDS, one of the leading providers of telecommunication services in Central & Eastern Europe (CEE), have announced a multi-year deal to extend distribution of Eurosport 2 within the CEE territory.
This new deal brings outstanding growth to the subscription figures of Eurosport 2, the New Generation Sports Channel, in CEE countries. The channel will now reach 5.2 million subscribers in Romania, Hungary, Czech Republic, Slovak Republic, Croatia, and Serbia. The agreement includes distribution of Eurosport 2 in the basic package on all DIGI TV DTH platforms in the countries mentioned above, as well as DIGI cable distribution in Romania and Hungary.
The Eurosport Group is rapidly securing a strong foothold in the CEE region, thanks to Eurosport 2 and the channel’s wide-ranging offer of team, discovery, action, and youth-oriented sports and entertainment. The development in these markets follows a consistent expansion of the group’s distribution networks within the area.
Jean-Thierry Augustin, Deputy Managing Director, Distribution and Development said: “We are thrilled to announce this deal with RCS & RDS who provides the fastest growing platforms in Central & Eastern Europe. Eurosport 2 has secured a strong support of loyal viewers in these markets. Despite fierce local competition, Eurosport 2 has proven to be the ultimate “must have” entertainment channel in a vast amount of households in these markets.”
The outstanding increase in the Eurosport 2’s distribution figures comes only 6 months after the successful launch of a local window in Hungary and Romania, featuring exclusive coverage of the Barclays Premier League. This was followed closely by other business developments in the area including: a Serbian language version of Eurosport 2 launched in October 2007, and since December, new satellite feeds for the Russian versions of Eurosport and Eurosport 2, covering the entire Russian territory.
