Eurosport.com, the leading European sports portal announced record figures today as it’s online coverage of the Tour de France recorded over two million page impressions daily for the three-week event (7th – 29th July).
The Tour de France 2001 has now become eurosport.com’s most successful event ever, helping to push the eurosport.com network of websites to an average of 50 million pages viewed per month with an average of 2.2 million unique visitors.
Eurosport.com’s Tour de France figures rose as the infamous mountain stages of the Tour began. It’s expert online editorial coverage, as well as the opportunities for cycling fans to get involved in the race through forums, message boards, and prediction games helped to attract a whole new audience to the site.
Other highlights included live commentary, both in audio and text format, daily video highlights, exclusive interviews with the riders, including eventual champion Lance Armstrong, and the chance to email questions to the Eurosport TV commentary team and have their answers read out on-air.
With the eurosport.com WARP and PDA sites, cycling fans were also able to follow the Tour when they were on the go with their mobile phone (WARP) or personal digital assistance (PDA).
Mobile coverage included live comments, latest news and results, race standings and the full Tour schedule.
