The European Club Association (ECA) and Soccerex are delighted to confirm that, following their historic first General Assembly, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge and Michele Centenaro will outline their association’s vision for European football at the Soccerex London Forum (13 May).
Speaking exclusively to Soccerex.com Karl-Heinz Rummenigge (former European Footballer of the year and now Chairman of the ECA & FC Bayern Munich) commented that, “As a recently formed club association, the ECA knows that Soccerex offers the perfect platform for us to address and outline our objectives to the global football community”
Formed in 2008 as an independent association after the disbandment of the G-14 and the European Club Forum, the ECA is the sole independent body directly representing 137 clubs, drawn from every one of the 53 national associations within UEFA. The association aims to be more representative than its predecessor and foster better relations between UEFA and its member clubs.
This exclusive session will commence with a presentation from Michele Centenaro (ECA General Secretary) outlining the motives behind the formation of the ECA and how it aims to further improve the football industry in Europe. After previously holding the position of Head of Club Competitions for UEFA, Michele Centenaro is one of the most respected and influential figures in the European club game.
After the ECA presentation this session will culminate in an exclusive one-to-one interview with Karl Heinz Rummenigge. As the chairman of this powerful club association he will be able to divulge the outcomes of the ECA’s recent General Assembly and its position on topics such as wage capping, ‘homegrown’ quota systems and the ways in which European clubs can reduce costs in light of the current economic situation.
The Soccerex London Forum has cemented itself as Europe’s premier football business event and with the ECA taking a prominent, role a record number of clubs from Europe and further afield are expected to attend.
