England Hockey Appoints New Performance Director

Following a long and intensive search, selection and interview process I am delighted to announce that David Faulkner has been appointed as England Hockey’s new Performance Director with effect from April 25th, a post that has been filled on an interim basis since November 2004 by Neil West. David will report directly to me, and will join the England Hockey Board.

David won a gold medal at the 1988 Olympic Games and a silver medal in the 1986 World Cup.  He has captained both England and Great Britain and was named both National League Player of the Year and National Hockey Writers’ Player of the Year in 1989.  David has coached a number of hockey teams and is currently Director of Hockey at Havant Hockey Club, where he has implemented a five-year plan focusing on coaching and player development strategy.  He is also currently the Managing Director of his own successful embroidery and printing business which he bought in 2000 following an early career as a sales engineer and operations manager.

David Faulkner said, ‘I am absolutely delighted to be joining England Hockey at such a crucial stage in the development of the sport in England.  I am looking forward to taking on the challenge and helping the teams to achieve medal success and to developing our sport at the top end. Although I will remain a shareholder of my business I’ll be giving up all operational involvement to focus full time on the job at hand.’

Commenting on the appointment, Philip Kimberley, Executive Chairman of England Hockey said ‘I am delighted to welcome David to the team and I am confident that the combination of his leadership skills, personality and hockey experience will help us build firm foundations for the elite end of the sport for the future.’  He then went on to say, ‘I would also like to express my sincere thanks and gratitude to Neil West, who has performed a superb job and made an excellent contribution over the last few months. David will be taking over from Neil after a short handover.’
