Having received all necessary guarantees and based on an evaluation site visit, the Council of the European Athletic Association approved Florence / ITA as the host of the SPAR European Cup 2005.
It will be the second time that the best eight European national teams men and women will compete in Tuscany. In 2003 the SPAR European Cup was the inaugurating event for the newly constructed stadium Luigi Ridolfi. The remaining aspect for the event on the 18/19 June is the final timetable which has to be agreed with the EBU.
The SPAR European Cup 2006 was allocated to Malaga / ESP already one year ago. With the intention to avoid a clash with the Football World Cup the Council has decided to hold this event on Wednesday/Thursday, 28/29 June, the rest days of the Football World Cup.
The 5th European Mountain Running Championships 2006 have been given to the Czech candidate of Upice Male Svatonovice. The other contender was Skofja Loca. The event will take place on 9 July.
The Winter Throwing Cup 2005 will be held in Mersin in the southern part of Turkey. Mersin won with a narrow majority over Jerusalem / ISR.
Following an earlier decision by the International Association of Athletic Federations, IAAF, to take the 200 m out of the competition program of the indoor championships, the EAA Council decided also to delete this event. It will be staged for the last time at the European Indoor Championships 2005 in Madrid / ESP. This rule change has to be approved by the EAA Congress on 16 April 2005 in Ljubljana / SLO.
Further Council decisions:
– Change of the event title from ‘European Winter Throwing Challenge’ to ‘European Winter Throwing Cup’
